Krafty Tips and Tutes #38 - Altering a gift box

Welcome to another week of Krafty Tips and Tutes here at Kraftin' Kimmie Stamps!  Each week one of our fabulous Krafty Girls share a little post with some sort of tip or tutorial for you and we hope you find them inspirational!

Good morning everyone! It's Stephanie here, and today I have a photo tutorial to share with you, showing how I alter gift boxes called Boitatou so you can make your own for every occasion! The lucky girls at our latest krafty krop in St.Thomas got to make it with us, but you can order your boxes online and create it the same way, too!

First step is to build the box. Here we’ll be using the 6.75”x6.75”x0.73” kraft model.

Be sure to really do the folds so that they can stay in place afterwards. Don’t build the box yet, because you want to put some washi tape first on all exterior sides.

Here’s what you’re supposed to get.

Quick tip: you want to put some pressure on the back of the box so that it closes tightly.

Next comes decorating the cover along with these easy steps:
Ink and distress the edges of a 6”x6” patterned paper and add a brad onto each corner.
Ink and distress the edges of a 5”x5” patterned paper, glued on 3 coloured cardstocks for mating (each to 1/8” larger). Put this piece on 3d foam pop-ups on top of the previous 6”x6” piece.
Make a knot to each end of a double-tied twine, then staple it on your 5”x5” piece. I put mine to each side of the image to really focus on it.
Stamp and colour a cute image from the Just Chillin’ stamps set (mine was coloured with Copics).

Ink with your distress tool a winter trinket stamped image, die-cut/punch some snowflake shapes, cut them in half and glue them behind the trinket. No leftovers here! Add a thin coat of Diamond Glaze or Glossy Accents over the trinket.

The result:

Don't forget to order your Winter Trinkets and Just Chillin' set to start altering your own box!
